Sending Multi-address Shipping Confirmation Emails
When using Giftship multi-address shipping feature, each shipment is created as a separate child order in Shopify. Without any customization, an individual shipping confirmation email is sent for every child order, which means a customer could receive dozens of emails for a single purchase.
In this article we will go how to set up multi-address shipping confirmation emails through Giftship, which lets you consolidate all shipments into one email, sent at the time of your choosing.
Benefits
- The customer receives a single email summarising all shipments, rather than one per child order.
- The email can be fully customised using a Liquid template to match your brand and include the data most relevant to your customers.
Setting Up
The set up depends on whether or not you wish to use your own custom email templates.
Option 1 — Use the default template
No setup is required. Giftship includes a built-in email template that lists all shipments, shipping addresses, line items, and tracking information. You can start sending immediately.
Option 2 — Use a custom template
- From Giftship’s dashboard go to Email Builder and create a new template using the Multi-address shipping confirmation preset as your starting point.
- Customize the layout, branding, and content using Liquid variables. See the below article for more information on data that can be accessed in the templates:
- Save the template, then go the Multishipping section of Giftship’s Global settings, scroll to the bottom of the page, and select your template under Shipping confirmation email template.

Sending the email
Step 1 — Suppress Shopify’s default shipping confirmations
When fulfilling child orders, make sure Shopify’s built-in shipping confirmation emails are not sent. If they are, the customer will receive both Shopify’s individual emails and your consolidated Giftship email.
Doing so depends on how orders are fulfilled, but typically there is a checkbox similar to the below that must not be checked during the fulfillment process:

Step 2 — Send the consolidated email via Giftship
Once you are ready to notify the customer (typically once all child orders have been fulfilled), you can send the email in one of two ways:
Option 1: From the Giftship dashboard
In Giftship’s dashboard click Multi-address orders, select the parent order, and from the Actions dropdown at the top of the page click Send shipping confirmation.
Before sending, Giftship will show you a preview of the email so you can confirm the content looks correct.
